This is a course-book addressed primarily to Chinese students who want to learn English in a real-world context and broaden their horizons with news articles originally produced, especially to students at advanced levels in college, and by extension, to others who are working in journalism, business, foreign affairs, etc.
It has 20 units divided into 5 parts, covering a wide range of topics like current events of global concern, culture and entertainment, environment and health, science and technology from The Guardian, The New York Times, The Associated Press, China Daily, The Washington Post, The Economist and so on. Each unit accompanied by photographs drawn from the news, is designed around a specific topic to engage students' interest while offering various language exercises. A warm-up, some key points, vocabularies and idioms are planned for each unit to facilitate students' process of reading, writing, speaking and discussion.
This book aims to stimulate students' interest in issues of global importance such as politics, economy, health and sci-tech while highlighting their ability to master integrated subject matter in an English-language context.
